Särna
The gateway to the mountain world.
Here in the valley embraced by the mountain Fulufjället, Städjan-Nipfjället and Vedungsfjället you will find Särna. If you visit us during the summer and autumn your days can be filled with hiking trips and explorations, to Njupeskär - one of Sweden's highest waterfall or the world's oldest tree - Old Tjikko.
One of the most action-packed weeks in the village are Särna festival week - the countryside is full of with visitors from all around the world. You’ll find an abundance of activities like motocross, markets, running competitions and bike races, not to mention the dance that will last long into the night. There is usually also an occasional outing to any of the ponds looking for the red gold – the grayling, which you can catch both summer and winter.
During winter you can usually ride a snowmobile over the white plains stretching from Älvdalen to Särna and onwards to Idre, Gördalen, Lofsdalen or Sälen. With so many snowmobile trails in the area there is no wonder that one of Scandinavia's largest long-distance dog sledding races, Polardistans, starts here.
