Through forest and landscape Österdalälven River flows. Your journey begins here to one of Sweden's older cultural treasures. Experience “Älvdalskan” the language which originated here, the old summer farms that brighten up the summers, the sweet sounds of Larz Kristerz’s music and the beautiful craftmanship in porphyry. Take the opportunity to locate a pond or a fine stretch of Österdalälven to fly fish in, or hike on one of the lovely forest trails in the deeps of Älvdalen’s forests.

For the residents in Älvdalen the music has always been their heart and you will notice that during the Countryside Week where culture really must be experienced with all the senses and of course at the Music & Motor festival that ends summer in Älvdalen. Then the purring and roars of engines from all over Sweden will be heard in the village and it is filled with both music & motor enthusiasts.

Winters in Älvdalen is a little different. The interest in snowmobiles shines bright as soon as the first snow falls. But there are also many wonderful cross-country skiing trails which are prepared early in the season and maintained frequently by älvdalingarna - who are happy to invite you to Vasaloppet (the world’s oldest long-distance cross-country ski race).
