Like all western Swedish border areas were also Grövelsjön affected of the German occupation of Norway. One of the most famous reminders of that era, the aircraft wreckage which partially protrudes above Grövelsjöns water. There are remains of a Heinkel 111, which during the Second World War emergency landing on the lake.
The best way to see the wreck is to take a trip with M / S Sylöra from Grövelsjön, each tour goes past the wreck. M/s Sylöra tours are canceled at this point due to covid-19.
