The hoist was built in 1912 and is positioned over a shaft that is 487 meters deep. Today, it is the only remaining mining building in an area where mining activity has been documented since the 1300s, then called Vikaberg. Several miners' houses still remain, as well as the Manager's Villa. Around the hoist, there is also a large slag stone area and nearby several fenced-in mine shafts.
