Ornässtugan

Ornässtugan is beautifully located on a peninsula in Lake Runn. Here, you'll find a flavorful café, an intriguing miner's environment filled with Vasa history in an exhibition that is the world's oldest preserved in its original building.

Join a guided tour or stroll around and enjoy nature. Throughout the ages, the medieval miner's estate Ornässtugan has fascinated visitors who have come to admire its architecture and to learn about the exciting history of king Gustav Vasa and how he hastily fled from the estate with the help of the brave Barbro Stigsdotter. As early as 1758, a museum was established in Ornässtugan. Today, the same museum remains, with the same artifacts, and the stories of Vasa's adventures in Dalarna are still passed down from generation to generation. The museum can only be visited with a guide. In the architect-designed museum shop, you will also find Ornässtugan's café, a well-known and appreciated destination in itself. All imaginative pastries are baked on-site; for example, try the "Vasa Pastry" with luxurious flavors from the Vasa era.
