Gyllbergen - Hiking Trails 5-10 km

Gyllbergen is Borlänge's largest nature reserve. It is a 1700-hectare wilderness area with excellent hiking trails in the summer and cross-country skiing tracks in the winter. Here you can walk on boardwalks through the marshes, pick cloudberries and blueberries, or explore the rich wildlife in the Borlänge municipality.

Take a trip with the family and enjoy a coffee break at one of the many shelters with barbecue areas. Or set out on a longer tour to one of the overnight cabins. Fjortasjö Tour: starts from Gyllfäbodarna. Follow the trail going south over Gyllberget to Fjortasjön. Return the same way, 2.6 kilometers one way. When you reach the trail junction at Fjortasjön, look out over the mire on the water's surface. Long ago, there were fourteen small lakes here, hence the name. Now most have grown over, leaving just one. During the tour, you pass two resting spots with shelters (Berget and Källan) and the Giant Table - a stone block table where it's said a giant used to dine. Dragsjö Loop: starts from Gyllfäbodarna. Head to Fjortasjön - Norra Dragsjön - Dragbergsplan - the forest road back to Gyllfäbodarna. 9.0 km. Note that from Dragbergsplan to Gyllfäbodarna, you walk along a forestry road outside the reserve. Spånsberg Loop: starts from Spånsfäbodarna. From the reserve parking, head to Dragbergsstugan. Continue to the Dragsjön rest area where you take the trail toward Gyllfäbodarna over Fjortasjön. From Fjortasjön, head towards Spånsfäbodarna. The way back is the same from Spånsankorset. Note that the stretch between Dragbergsstugan and Fjortasjön can be quite wet and the boardwalks are old and in need of maintenance. The loop is about 10.6 km. Alternatively, you can start from Gyllfäbodarna, making the tour about 10.5 km. Dragberget Loop: starts from Dragbergsstugan. Take the steep path up Dragbergsbacke towards Bergslagsstugan, then north to Dragbergsmyren before heading back to Dragbergsstugan. An alternative is from Dragbergsmyren to find your way to the northern mouth of Dragbergsgata and walk down the fault line, coming out just before Dragbergsstugan. Note that it is rocky and challenging, so good shoes and steady footing are recommended. 2.0 km. Between the northern end of Dragsjön and Dragbergsstugan, it is 0.7 km. Trails outside the reserve can sometimes be a bit poorly marked. The County Administrative Board of Dalarnas län is responsible for trails to and within the reserve. Outside the reserve, Borlänge and Gagnefs municipalities and Friluftsfrämjandet are responsible for the trails. Visit Dalarna is not responsible for the trails or their maintenance. Keep in mind that the trails are affected by the seasons and weather, so please check the conditions before heading out on your hiking tour.
