Schisshyttan hiking trail 4 km

The trail follows the course of Schisshytteån. Along the trail, there are remnants of the region's iron handling from the mid-1600s to 1922, with intriguing remains of forges, smaller steelworks, worker housing, dams, and blast furnaces. Today, only ruins remain.

Most of the buildings are now demolished or in ruins, and the forest has reclaimed the land. The hike also includes a modern mine, Lustigkulla, with a preserved steel structure tower. The mine has a magnificent location with beautiful views from the tower’s steps. Schisshyttan trail is part of the attractions at Ekomuseum Bergslagen. Start and finish: 1.5 km past Schisshyttans Herrgård in Smedjebacken, at parking on the right side. Length: 4 km, circular trail. Trail marking: There is a path to follow and wooden signs are placed at intersections. Duration: About 1.5 hours. Difficulty: Medium, partly hilly trail. Environment: The trail goes through forest and terrain and is occasionally steep. Parking: Available near the southern part of the trail.
