Snickar's Brukshästar - Dala horse tours

Come and visit us in beautiful Sollerön, just outside Mora, Dalarna. You’ll feel like you’ve travelled back in time here, and you’ll learn about our authentic tradition of classical handmade Dala horses from the local area.

During your visit, you can try carving your very own Dala horse by hand with a genuine whittling knife from Mora and handmade leather aprons that you can take with you as a memento of this experience. In this area, there was once a horse on almost every farm, a Nordic breed which is now endangered. These horses are of huge importance to Sweden’s history. We’ll take you on a tour around our beautiful Dalarna village with these fabulous workhorses. These horses were the inspiration behind the traditional wooden horses. We will also cook a delicious lunch together outdoors over an open fire. Welcome! Programme 10 AM Arrival and introduction to the facilities, myself and the horses. 10:30 AM We will start getting one of the horses ready for it to take us on a calm and pleasant carriage tour to see the beautiful Dalarna farms in the surrounding area. Around 11:30 AM We will light the fire and make pancakes or kolbulle (Swedish pancakes with pork) outdoors over the open fire. 12:30 PM Back to the horses to take care of the one that was drawing the carriage. Afterwards, participants are given a leather apron to protect their clothes (they can take the apron with them after the activity). You can borrow a whittling knife made by Morakniv and try carving your very own Dala horse, with a view of Siljan lake and the horse pasture. Facts Season: March - November.
